Chapter Nine
Diana
I fucked up.
I stared up at the showerhead, letting the water hit me directly in the face. I should have held my ground. I shouldnât have given in. This just made everything so much harder on me.
How was I supposed to know that it would be so good?
It had been so much better than the effects of my spell and the one of my trances, but now I wanted more.
I was addicted.
How could I have been so stupid to think it would be easy to walk away from this bond after giving into it? I should know better than anyone how powerful their pull on a person can be. Iâve seen it with witches and wolves alike. Watched them lose themselves in their need for the other.
I just thought that if I could satiate the hunger, it would make things easier.
It seemed to work with the mates I watched before. Then again, those mated couples didnât have any intention of leaving each other. And they both knew they were bonded. Orion still knew nothing, but given how he acted last night, he certainly felt something.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
âHey, Diana, I have to go to the packhouse. Seems the Alpha is summoning me now.â There was a hint of aggravation in his voice.
He hated this so much. An alpha answering to another. Especially one who wasnât born an alpha. He stole the title. Stole it from Orion, making it that much more aggravating.
âDo you want to come with me?â
I turned off the shower, stepping out of the tub, wrapping a towel around my chest. When I opened the door, Orion sucked in his breath, his eyes raking over me from head to toe. I could see the fires of desire still burning behind his eyes. The gold flecks like embers against the brown of his gaze.
My cheeks flushed at his attention, staring into one anotherâs eyes. A shiver ran through me, that aching need to feel him inside me taking over once more. A tingling sensation rushed through my belly and chest. I gripped my towel tighter around me. It was all I could do to not rip the cloth from my body and climb him like a tree.
He swallowed hard, trying his best not to stare. I could see flashes of memory of what he had done last night flash across his features. A faint pink tint creeping up his neck as the heat grew in his chest just as it did in mine.
âDo you want to come? To the packhouse, I mean. With me. Thatâs what I was asking.â
I pulled my gaze from him, just enough to see the apartmentâs condition. The glass of the window swept precariously on the wet carpet. I had lost control of myself last night, my powers summoning a storm just as powerful as the one that Orion brewed inside me.
I couldnât leave the window broken like that. Couldnât leave the mess on the floor. It was bad enough I left it overnight, so worn out and contently wrapped in Orionâs arms.
